Summary

The Committee appointed to survey secondary education in New South Wales was established in September 1953, based on the recommendation of the Director General of Education. The Committee was responsible for carrying out the following functions: "survey and report upon the provision of full-time day education for adolescents in New South Wales and, in particular, to examine the objectives, organisation and content of the courses provided for adolescent pupils in the public schools of the State, with regard to the requirements of a good general education and to the desirability of providing a variety of curricula adequate to meet the varying aptitudes and abilities of the pupils concerned." The Committee submitted a report entitled Report of the Committee Appointed to Survey Secondary Education in New South Wales (Wyndham report) on 28 October 1957, before being abolished on 31 December 1964.
