The Senate Standing Committee on Employment, Education and Training was established on 22 September 1987 under Senate Standing Order 36AA, replacing the Senate Standing Committee on Education and the Arts (1976-1987). The Committee was responsible for carrying out functions related to the following broad areas: education and cultural affairs. The Committee was dissolved on 22 September 1987, and its functions were divided between the following committees: Senate Standing Committee on Environment, Recreation and the Arts (1987-1994), Senate Standing Committee on Employment, Education and Training (1987-1994) and the Senate Select Committee on the Education of Gifted and Talented Children (1987-1990).
