Summary

The Department of Education, Employment and Training (Australian Capital Territory) was established on 24 July 1987, replacing the Department of Education [II], Australian Capital Territory Regional Office (1984-1987). The Office was responsible for carrying out the following functions: "administer, in conjunction with Central Office, the student assistance schemes, Aboriginal education, international grants and awards, overseas fellows and visitors, private overseas students program and information and publicity." The Office was abolished on 1 March 1990 as an outcome of the Corporate Services Review (CSR), and its functions were transferred to the Department of Employment, Education and Training, State Office, Sydney (New South Wales). The Office was then reformed under the name of Department of Employment, Education and Training, Australian Capital Territory /Southern NSW Area Office, Canberra (Australian Capital Territory).
