Summary

The Department of Education, Employment and Training (Victoria) was established in October 1999, under the Public Sector Management and Employment Act 1998 (Victorian Government Gazette S 158), replacing Department of Education (1992-1999). The Department was responsible for carrying out the following functions: administration of primary, secondary and tertiary education, along with vocational, technical, community and further education. The Department was also responsible for the areas of youth affairs and employment. The Department was abolished in March 2002. The functions of DEET were transferred to the Department of Education and Training, apart from employment, which was transferred to the Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development, under Administrative Arrangements Order No. 177.
