Curriculum Policies Archive

About the archive

This archive provides access to digital copies of key curriculum policy documents which were collected as part of the ARC funded project School Knowledge, Working Knowledge and the Knowing Subject: A review of state curriculum policies 1975-2005. This project was not designed to provide a detailed history of curriculum over that period but to focus at 10 year intervals on the key documents, emphases and formulations evident in relation to secondary schooling to gain a sense of both changes over time and the differences and commonalities in values and approaches of the different Australian states to curriculum questions. The archive collected as part of this project is not intended to serve as a complete history of curriculum policy within Australia, but is provided as a resource for educational researchers, students and policy makers with interests in curriculum and curriculum history.

On this website, the policies can be browsed by year or by state. The policy documents are housed within a University of Melbourne Library Special Collection and can also be searched via that collection via the library website https://digitised-collections.unimelb.edu.au/handle/11343/115308

For some of the policies, we developed detailed summaries as part of our analysis and these documents are also provided alongside the digitised versions of the policy documents as an additional resource. These policies were those we considered most significant at the ten year intervals around which the project was designed and are also listed by state.
