Summary

The Schools Authority (Australian Capital Territory) was established on 1 January 1977 under the Schools Authority Ordinance 1976, replacing the Interim Australian Capital Territory Schools Authority (1973-1976). The Authority was given the responsibility for carrying out the following functions: "establish and conduct in the Territory, on behalf of the Commonwealth, pre-schools, primary schools, high schools and secondary colleges; establish and conduct…such other educational services as the Minister approves; and…establish and conduct…such other educational or related services as the Minister directs."
