Summary

The Department of Education, Science and Training was established under an Administrative Arrangements Order on 26 November 2001 , taking on functions from the Department of Education, Training and Youth Affairs, Central Office (1998-2001) and the Department of Industry, Science and Resources, Central Office (1998-2001). The Department was responsible for carrying out the following functions: "education, other than migrant adult education; [development of] science policy; promotion of collaborative research in science and technology; training, including new apprenticeships and training services; co-ordination of research policy; research grants and fellowships; radioactive waste management." The Department was abolished on 3 December 2007 under an Administrative Arrangements Order and many of its functions were transferred to the new Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (2007-2013).
