Summary
The Ministry of Education (Victoria) was established in November 1985, under the provisions of Administrative Arrangements Order No.4, replacing the Education Department (1873-1985). The Ministry of Education was responsible for the following function areas: administration of primary and secondary school education (1985-1991), administration of tertiary education (1987-1991), administration of technical training and apprenticeships (1987-1991), regulation of school attendance (1987-1991), and employment (1991-1991).The Ministry was renamed the Ministry of Education and Training in January 1991. This change of name did not affect the functions of the Ministry.
