Summary
The Ministry of Education and Training (Victoria) was established in January 1991, replacing the Ministry of Education. This change in name did not result in any changes in the responsibilities or functions of the Ministry. The Ministry was responsible for the following function areas: administration of primary and secondary school education (1991 - 1992), administration of tertiary education (1991 - 1992), administration of technical training and apprenticeships (1991 - 1992), regulation of school attendance (1991 - 1992), and employment (1991 - 1992).In October 1991, the Ministry was abolished and five separate and independent administrative units were established under the provisions of Administrative Arrangements Order No. 97 1991 and associated amendments to Schedule Two of the Public Service Act 1974. The new administrative units were as follows: Department of School Education, Office of Higher Education, Division of Further Education, Education and Training Strategic Policy Secretariat, Office of the State Training Board.
