Summary
The Department of School Education was established on 15 December 1989, with the renaming of the Department of Education (1915-1989). The Department was responsible for carrying out functions relating to the following areas: school curriculum, establishment and overseeing operation of government schools, registration of schools, assessment, and educational audits and program reviews. On 3 December 1997 the Department was merged with the Department of Education and Training Coordination, under the Public Sector Management (Department of Education and Training) Order 1997, to form the Department of Education and Training.
