Summary
The Board of Senior School Studies (New South Wales) was established on 30 November 1961 under the Education Act, 1961 (Act No.47, 1961), replacing the Board of Secondary School Studies (1936-1961). The Board was responsible for carrying out the following functions: "make recommendations to the Minister…concerning the conduct of examinations for higher school certificates and the award of such certificates; to make such arrangements…for the conduct of examinations for higher school certificates, and to regulate the conduct of those examinations; to determine the courses of study…for school certificates to be followed in secondary schools by candidates for higher school certificates, and to authorise the grant of such certificates; to appoint for each subject of the secondary school curriculum…special committees for the purpose of recommending to the Board of senior School Studies the content of any such course of study." The Board of Senior School Studies was abolished in 1987 under Miscellaneous Acts (Education and Public Instruction) Repeal and Amendment Act, 1987 (Act No.63, 1987), and was replaced by the Board of Secondary Education.
