Summary

The Board of Senior Secondary School Studies (Queensland) was established on 6 February 1989 under the Education (Senior Secondary School Studies) Act 1988, replacing the Board of Secondary School Studies (1971-1989). The Board was responsible for carrying out the following functions: "to approve and develop syllabuses for years 11 and 12; accredit work programs; to administer an appropriate system of student assessment and to certify and disseminate the results of the assessment, and to develop and administer Core Skills Tests; to issue Senior Certificates and Junior Certificates; to appoint necessary committees; [and] to make recommendations regarding funds." The Board was abolished on 1 July 2002 and the Queensland Studies Authority was established under the Education (Queensland Studies Authority) Regulation 2002.
