Summary

The Department of Education, Training and Employment (South Australia) was established in 1997 under the Education Act 1972, replacing the Department for Education and Children's Services (1994-1997). The Department was responsible for carrying out the following functions: "provi[sion] [of] preschool services, general primary and secondary education, alternative schools and centres for students with special needs, specialist schools and support services. It [also] administer[ed] family day care and outside school hours care on behalf of the Commonwealth, and licenses and regulates the child care sector in South Australia. It [also] provide[d] technical and further education, training, employment and youth services." The Department was renamed in 2002, and became known as the Department of Education and Children's Services [II].
