Summary
The Secondary Education Authority was established on 1 January 1985 under the Secondary Education Authority Act 1984, replacing the Board of Secondary Education (1969-1985).The Authority was responsible for carrying out the following functions: create guidelines and approve syllabuses developed by secondary education institutions, administer assessment of secondary students and provide information to post-secondary institutions regarding performance of students. The Authority was abolished under the Curriculum Council Act 1997 on 8 July 1997, and was replaced by the Curriculum Council.
